At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Italian car design firm and coachbuilder, Pininfarina, unveiled the Pininfarina Sergio, a limited edition car that was made to commemorate the company’s 85th Anniversary and to honour the legacy of the second CEO of Pininfarina,  Sergio Pininfarina, who had passed away recently. There are currently only six of these cars in existence, each initially sold to the tune of USD $3 Million.

The design for the Pininfarina Sergio was inspired by the 1965 Dino Berlinetta Speciale which was the first solo project between Ferrari and Sergio Pininfarina. The Dino was also Sergio favourite car as confirmed by his son, Paolo. It was initially designed only as a concept but things changed with Sergio’s death which led to the extremely limited production. The original concept, due to its old-school inspiration, didn’t feature a fixed windshield nor a roof. However, the production models, due to safety regulations, feature a fixed windshield.

Within the Pininfarina Sergio is a naturally aspirated 4.5 liter V8 engine, the same one sported by Ferrari’s standard 458 Italia though modified to give a greater output of 597 horsepower in comparison to the 458 Italia’s 562 horsepower. The car is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

The six models produced were sold to handpicked customers with the first of the bunch making its way to the SBH Royal Auto Gallery in the United Arab Emirates. Three of the models were then shipped off to the United States and the final two were bought by individuals in Japan and Switzerland. In 2017, the Euro-spec, yellow-on-black, model which was delivered to Switzerland was sold for USD $5.6 Million. It had only covered 73 miles at the time and was in pristine condition.

With that, we come to the end of this piece on the Pininfarina Sergio. If you wish to share more information about this iconic car, feel free to comment below.
