HMD Product Manager says new Nokia flagship is coming on November 11

Building a Nokia flagship has proven to be quite difficult for HMD Global. Following the failure of the Nokia 9 PureView to make an impression on the market, we heard speculations about the 9.1, 9.2, and most recently the 9.3 PureView, each of which was followed by a rumor of a delayed launch. Even the rumors have died out.

According to ITHome, HMD is working on a 5G flagship that will be unveiled in China on November 11 – 11.11, also known as Singles’ Day, a major shopping occasion in China. This isn’t just a rumor; it’s based on a remark from Zhang Yucheng, HMD’s China Product Manager.

We can’t look at previous leaks because they span several years of projects that never came to light, and the PM didn’t provide any specifics about the gadget. HMD has moved on from the “9.3” naming method, so the phone could not even have that.

It’s all about the X-series at the moment. The Nokia X50 is said to have a 108-megapixel camera and a S775 processor. Other rumored features include Zeiss optics for the primary, telephoto, and ultra wide cameras, as well as a 6.5-inch 1440p+ display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 6,000-mAh battery. This sounds far more powerful than anything HMD has released recently, probably superior to the X20 and X10, but not quite a top-tier unit

One recent rumor claims that a Nokia X70 phone will get a custom sensor that is co-designed by Nokia Technology. Given how poorly the highly-custom PureView camera in the Nokia 9 fared (Light, the camera’s creator, even withdrew out of the phone business), this potential is both exciting and concerning. We’re probably months away from any concrete rumors about the Nokia flagship’s real specs (if they exist at all – we’ve been burned before).
