Multi-device support has been a long-awaited feature for WhatsApp. Earlier this year, a WhatsApp beta app hinted to multi-device compatibility, but it now appears that the capability will also enable non-phone devices. WhatsApp will soon release the first version of multi-device compatibility in beta, according to WABetaInfo.

For the time being, it will only support up to four other devices and one phone. WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop, and Facebook’s Portal smart display are among the other devices. So, if you were expecting to use WhatsApp’s multi-device functionality to view your chats on two phones at the same time, you’re out of luck for the time being.

Lack of multi-device compatibility is still one of the greatest drawbacks of using WhatsApp, and it’s one of the main reasons I stopped using it — and I’m not alone. While my position is unusual — as a phone reviewer, I generally have many devices on my desk at any given time – there are a variety of reasons why individuals would want to use WhatsApp on multiple devices.

If you have both personal and professional cellphones, for example, having WhatsApp on both may be beneficial. It’s even more aggravating when you realize that other chat applications allow several devices or at the very least make moving between them considerably easier.

At the very least, WhatsApp is adding multi-device capabilities. These improvements should make it easier for individuals to use WhatsApp to connect with pals on devices other than their primary phone. WABetaInfo posted a screenshot of the functionality, which also mentions certain limitations.

To begin, messages and calls sent via the web, desktop, or Portal will not be sent if the receiver is using an earlier version of WhatsApp. WhatsApp also warns of performance and quality decline, as well as other minor concerns. WhatsApp’s multi-device beta should be available shortly and, following testing, will be made available to all users.
